There are two Catalan restaurants that have entered the list of the “New Best in Europe”. But first, you should know that this is a ranking led by Opinionated About Dining (OAD), which is a platform created by New York native Steve Plotnicki, and is based on the opinions of foodies around the world.
What are these restaurants? Bisavis, in Barcelona and L’Horta Restaurant Tavertet, in Tavertet ranked 18th and 17th respectively as the best premieres in Europe.
1. Bisavis, one of the 2 Catalan restaurants that entered the OAD ranking.
Located between Tavern Street, 11 bis, in Barcelona. This small restaurant is run by Eduard Ros, who was pleasantly surprised to receive such recognition, as he says that the only thing he wants is for diners to have a good time while eating and drinking. He also comments that what he is looking for is to have a restaurant where he would like to eat.
He has a small bar where he cooks what he calls “product cuisine”, which are basically dishes with less elaboration and where the most important thing is the good ingredients. Mostly sea and mountain and market cuisine -for he cooks with what he finds every day-.
Among its most outstanding dishes are the tasting menu with steak, tartar, cocochas al pil pil and an incredible combination of pannacotta with caviar.
Now, as for the drinks, you should know that it has a wine cellar with about 200 references.
2. L’Horta Restaurant
Another award winner is located in Call de Can Baró, 2, Tavertet, Barcelona, a restaurant based on sustainability and the economy of the common good. The idea of this restaurant is that diners can enjoy food with respect, with the intention of -as far as possible- protecting the planet.
You should know that the origin of raw materials in L’Horta is a very important issue. For this reason they have their own vegetable garden from which they get most of the vegetables they use in their dishes. And those products that they do not produce, they try to obtain from local producers.
In short, there you can delight yourself with creative food, excellent presentation and the best elaboration. You can find vegetarian food -mainly vegetarian-, rice dishes and seasonal food, as well as a surprising wine list for all tastes.
OAD Guide: what is it?
The guide was born as a personal blog by Steve Plotnicki, specifically in 2003. But little by little it grew to become an annual guide of international character. It works with an algorithm that allows to rate the establishments with weighted votes and takes into account factors such as the number of visits or the number of trips that each foodie makes to the restaurants.
