So far in 2023, vehicle and motorcycle registrations have soared, with a significant increase in January compared to the same period last year.
And this behavior has been a real surprise in terms of vehicle and motorcycle registrations in Barcelona.
The data show a large increase compared to December 2002, when registrations fell.
Probably one of the explanations is that 2023 started with an upturn for the sector that is still recovering from the ravages of the pandemic and the semiconductor crisis.
While motorcycle and automobile registrations have shown the strongest growth, other types of vehicles have joined the trend in recent weeks.
2023 started with increased vehicle registrations
According to data from the municipal report of the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT), 2,457 vehicles were registered during the first month of the year, 15.4% more than in the same period last year. A further 328 new additions were recorded.
The number of motorcycles in the city also increased by 928 units. This implied an increase in registrations of 19.9% compared to January 2022.
Overall, the balance of vehicles registered between December last year and January 2023 shows favorable figures at the beginning of the year.
Enrollment in December 2022 was 2,282 vehicles. In January 2023, the figure increased to 2,457 vehicles.
Other types of registered vehicles
And it was not only cars and motorcycles that increased registrations. Other vehicles have also continued the upward trend.
For example, during January 2023, 66 vans and 70 SUVs were registered, figures that exceeded those recorded in 2022.
In fact, in the same month last year, 27 vans and 34 SUVs were registered.
With regard to mopeds, 139 units were registered in January 2022. This was up from 45 last month (January 2023).
As for combustion engines, particularly gasoline engines, they are the favorites of the people of Barcelona.
In fact, of the vehicles registered last January, 1,844 use this fuel, while another 307 use diesel.
Electric vehicles are still not entirely convincing and only reached a total of 233 registered in the Catalan capital.
Catalonia and Barcelona
According to Fecavem, the Catalan Automotive Distribution Association, there was a 43.5% increase in registrations in Catalonia and a 37.4% increase in Barcelona.
However, the Patronal highlights that 2023 started with an excellent indicator, which motivates that this year may bring the recovery of the automotive sector.
The pandemic had a major impact on the sector. So far, it is beginning to show a palpable recovery.
