Some 21 train and metro stations in Barcelona will have their names extended or merged according to their surroundings and neighborhood references.
The Metropolitan Transport Authority, ATM, is leading the unification of the names of the metro and Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat, Renfe and Tram stops in the Catalan capital and the surrounding metropolitan area.
One of the most notable adjustments is the inclusion of La Rambla to a subway station. Thus, the current Drassanes station will henceforth be renamed La Rambla – Drassanes.
The MTA informed that the changes will be implemented over the next few months in the stations and transportation maps. All according to the recommendations of the Nomenclature Commission.
The objective is to avoid confusion among users and network operators. There are cases where, for example, there are feeder stations where several operators with stops with different names coincide.
It is also intended to prevent two stations that are not linked from having the same name. Also, to adapt the names of certain stations to the place where they are located or to neighborhood demands.
