The organization of the America’s Cup Experience has taken a big step by turning on the first large-format 3D screen in Barcelona, located on the façade of the Imax. With a surface area of nearly 200 square meters, this giant screen faces the city and is visible from the Moll de la Fusta, a strategic point in the port of Barcelona. This breakthrough marks a technological milestone in the city and is part of the official Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup exhibition.
3D display for broadcasting
This 3D screen is not only an impressive display of technology, but also becomes a crucial medium for the dissemination of information related to the competition. Through it, citizens and visitors will be able to follow the progress of the teams in real time, admire the boats in action, and relive the most memorable moments of the America’s Cup. This project is aligned with the objective of bringing this historic regatta closer to the people of Barcelona, allowing everyone to feel the excitement of the competition from a central point in the city.
In addition to content specifically related to the America’s Cup, the screen will show iconic images of Barcelona and provide real-time information on sea conditions. The “window to Barcelona,” as the screen has been dubbed, will also serve as a space for cultural promotion, showcasing events and activities taking place in the city, making it a point of reference for locals and tourists.
The use of large-format 3D screens is a cutting-edge technology in the field of visual communication, and Barcelona joins the short list of cities such as New York, London, Tokyo and Shanghai that have similar installations. This project puts the city on the global map of technological innovation, offering an unprecedented visual experience.
Innovation and technology
Juan Manuel Sevillano, Managing Director of the America’s Cup Experience, highlighted the importance of this new installation for Barcelona, underlining that it reinforces the city’s commitment to innovation and technology. The 3D screen will not only enrich the visitors’ experience inside the America’s Cup Experience center, but will also draw attention to its impressive exterior façade.
The “window to Barcelona” will not only showcase the America’s Cup and the cultural life of the city, but will also include other attractions such as the ACEX cam, a recording platform with 360º technology that will allow visitors to film themselves and project their experience on the giant screen. This promises to be a great attraction for visitors to Port Vell, the heart of the event.
Race Village
Another outstanding novelty for this edition of the America’s Cup is the inauguration of the Race Village, a multifunctional space that will be the epicenter of the competition and a meeting point for sailors, fans and the general public. Located along the Muelle de la Madera, the Race Village will open its doors on August 29 and will be operational until October 21, covering the entire America’s Cup period.
The Race Village will not only be a place to enjoy the regattas, but will also host cultural, gastronomic and entertainment activities. Two areas with giant screens and catering services will be installed in the Plaza del Mar and near the Bogatell, where visitors will be able to follow the competition in a festive atmosphere.
Access to all these areas will be free and open to the public, although a capacity limit of 9,500 people has been established to avoid crowds. The organizers estimate that more than 25,000 people will visit the Race Village each day, making it one of the main attractions of the America’s Cup in Barcelona.
With an area of approximately 25,000 square meters, the Race Village will feature a main stage where musical performances will be held from Friday to Sunday, starting at 8:00 pm. In addition, giant screens will project daily shows presented by hosts that will keep spectators immersed in the action, even if there is no direct view of the water.
