The Barcelona Sailing Center, built in 1992, will be remodeled. The works will cost 4.2 million euros and are expected to be ready for the celebration of the America’s Cup in 2024.
This is one of the most important investments to be made at the Olympic Port.
Originally, the Municipal Sailing Center, CMV, was built for the Barcelona 92 Olympic Games, making it 30 years old.
With the renovations, it will now have a new multi-purpose room with “good accessibility” as well as beautiful views over the Recer seawall.
The decision was made because of aging and carbonation of the concrete and water leaks that will be repaired.
Initially it was planned to have the reforms ready by 2026, but now the target is the summer of 2024.
The objective is to “democratize” the space, and open it to the use of more than 18,000 people who come to the CMV every year to practice kayaking, sailing, paddle surfing or diving.
The construction of the Sailing Center
All works will be financed by the public company Barcelona de Servicios Municipales and the Barcelona Esports Institute will manage the facility.
The rehabilitation work on the first dock of the Sailing School is scheduled to begin in January 2023 and will continue progressively until completion.
It is also intended to reconvert the site into a blue economy center where companies linked to the management of marine and hybrid resources specialized in technology and sustainability will be integrated.
During the works it is not contemplated to suspend the nautical activities.
