Alice’s Worlds at the CaixaForum starting in October

Between October 17 and February 23, 2025, the CaixaForum in Barcelona will present a group exhibition that explores the profound impact of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” on the collective imagination. It is a work written by Lewis Carroll almost 160 years ago, but one that continues to resonate with new generations. This exhibition promises to offer a comprehensive overview of the legacy of Carroll’s books on Alice’s adventures. This encompassing its multiple influences and re-readings in various disciplines such as film, visual arts, fashion and science.

Alice's WorldsAlice’s Worlds

Under the title “Alice’s Worlds. Dreaming of Wonderland”, the exhibition delves into the background and context of the work, analyzing how it has been interpreted and reinterpreted over the years. The exhibition is a guided production of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. It is worth noting that this is one of the most important museums in the world in terms of art and design. It is known for its ability to curate exhibitions that combine historical rigor with an accessible and engaging narrative.

The exhibition will not only focus on the literary narrative, but will also address how “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” has influenced other creative and scientific fields. The aim is to show how Alice’s adventures have been a point of reference for generations of artists and thinkers, allowing the work to remain relevant today.

This exploration will include everything from John Tenniel’s earliest illustrations to film adaptations, fashion depictions and scientific analyses that have used the work as a metaphor to explain complex concepts.

The exhibition “Alice’s Worlds” will not only celebrate the endurance of Carroll’s work, but will also be an opportunity to reflect on how the stories we read in childhood can shape our perception of the world and continue to inspire us throughout our lives.

Other exhibitions at CaixaForum

In addition to “Alice’s Worlds”, CaixaForum’s exhibition season will include three other outstanding shows. Among them, one that promises to be another highlight is “Rubens and the Flemish Baroque artists”, an exhibition that will arrive at CaixaForum Barcelona from May 28 to September 21, 2025.

The exhibition will feature works from the Museo Nacional del Prado and will explore the creativity and influence of Flemish master Peter Paul Rubens. With a selection of approximately sixty pieces, visitors will be able to enjoy emblematic works such as “The Birth of Apollo and Diana”, “The Death of Seneca” and “The Immaculate Conception”.

Joan Ramon Fuertes, deputy general director of the “la Caixa” Foundation, highlighted the relevance of these exhibitions. The executive pointed out that the exhibitions are designed to address issues of interest to today’s society with a cross-cutting approach that integrates both art and science. This philosophy is evident in the selection of exhibitions for this season, which not only offer an immersion in the past, but also connect with contemporary concerns and debates.

Cultural reference

CaixaForum Barcelona has established itself as a cultural reference in the city, offering a space where art, science and culture meet to generate new forms of knowledge and enjoyment. The institution, which is part of the Obra Social “la Caixa”, is dedicated to the promotion of cultural activities that bring art and culture to a wide and diverse public. Each season, the center organizes a series of temporary exhibitions, workshops, conferences and educational activities that seek to promote access to culture and knowledge.

In short, the CaixaForum Barcelona exhibition season is shaping up to be a cultural milestone. But also as a celebration of creativity and the lasting influence of great works of art and literature. With events such as “Alice’s Worlds” and the exhibition on Rubens, CaixaForum reaffirms its commitment to the dissemination of culture and art in its many forms.
