Until November 6, 2022 you can see the best compendium of Asian cinema in several cinemas in Barcelona.
More than 100 films will be part of the Asian Film Festival Barcelona, which has become a tradition in the Catalan capital every year. In fact, 2022 is the tenth year the festival has been held in the city.
The aim is to bring the best of Asian cinema to the screens of Barcelona so that viewers can appreciate what is produced in distant countries.
The Asian Film Festival is the maximum exponent and reference of the film production that takes place in Asia.
Asian cinema in Barcelona: screening rooms
- These are the venues where the films will be screened in person this year:
- Cinemes Girona (most of the films will be shown in this theater)
- Phenomena
- CaixaForum
- Zumzeig (this hall also premieres as a venue in this year’s edition of the festival)
- Betevé and B Travel Experience (these theaters will also screen some feature films).
The online sessions are conducted through the FILMIN platform.
The tenth edition of AFFBCN 2022 covers a wide geographical area.
- Works from Central Asia are screened, including film productions from three former Soviet republics, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
- Other films come from Iran, Mongolia and Afghanistan.
- South Asia, represented by India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, is also participating.
- Southeast Asia, with works from the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.
- East Asia with films from China, Korea, Japan.
- Pacific represented by Australia and New Zealand.
- The festival remains true to its origins by screening only a program of films from 25 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
For this edition, the films feature historical narratives, genre themes, as well as drama productions. It is a compendium of works of different facets that offer innovation to this year’s cinematographic proposal.
The Asian Film Festival Barcelona, AFFBCN 2022, will award different prizes:
- Best Film
- Best Director
- Best script for each of the competition sections
For Menene Gras Balaguer, director of AFFBCN 2022, the tenth edition of the Asian Film Festival Barcelona aims to be as representative as possible of recent independent and experimental cinema produced in the Asian continent.
Gras adds that this year’s edition will feature films from countries such as India, Iran, China and South Korea.
However, titles from other Asian countries that are not tran recognized or have less projection are also being screened.
