Aürt de Barcelona: voted the best hotel restaurant in Spain

Barcelona and gastronomy are the best duo that has brought great recognition to the city. On this occasion, Barcelona is home to the best hotel restaurant in Spain chosen at the World Culinary Awards 2022 gala.

At an event held in Dubai, the award was presented to the Aürt restaurant at the Hilton Diagonal Mar Hotel in Barcelona, which won the award for the second consecutive year.

The restaurant is headed by chef Artur Martínez, who already has a Michelin star and two Repsol Suns.

Aürt is also part of the top 10 restaurants in Barcelona in the recently announced Macarfi Guide 2023.

What is most recognized and highlighted is how chef Martínez, with his talent and teamwork, managed to go from a small family restaurant in a small premises in Terrassa to occupy the imposing hall of the Hilton Diagonal hotel with the Aürt restaurant.

The chef was making a name for himself starting on the periphery of the Barcelona gastro scene with the preparation of very personal dishes in a kitchen of just a few meters.

The hall of the Hilton is adorned with the transparent kitchen style in the Aürt. It is an entire scenography where rehearsal and performance take place in the lobby of the Hilton Diagonal Mar, always in full view of everyone.

Most of the dishes are cooked at the same two tables that have the capacity to seat 15 diners.

How the restaurant Aürt was born

Chef Artur Martínez’s family ran a simple bar, El Bon Gust, which was founded by his grandparents in 1952 on the outskirts of Terrassa (Barcelona).

As time went by and in the early 70’s, his parents decided to take over the business and expanded the menu to include simple tapas and sandwiches. They are also opening a rotisserie chicken and take-out store.

At the same time, Artur grows up in a hostel environment. He decides to study cooking and work in different areas, until in 2002, together with his parents and his brother, they decide to transform the old bar into a small gastronomic restaurant called Capritx.

Such was their success that in 2010 they achieved their first Michelin star.

With this great achievement, seven years later, in February 2019, they decide to open Aürt in Barcelona.

The menu offered at Aürt stays true to the cooking roots Martinez grew up with.

To the point that the restaurant has only two tables for 15 diners only. In them, chefs and customers live together while tasting and interacting while tasting a Mediterranean cuisine with deep Japanese inspiration.

For these reasons he received this great award.
