Turisme de Barcelona has enthusiastically announced the creation of the “Barcelona Card Sea”, a thematic card designed to promote nautical and maritime activities, in an effort to bring the sea closer to citizens and consolidate the positive impact of the event on the community.
In this way, the Catalan capital is embarking on the creation of a lasting legacy following the exciting celebration of the America’s Cup sailing competition.
The Barcelona Card Sea is much more than a simple card; it is a pass to immerse yourself in the fascinating world of the sea and sailing.
For a price of 85 euros, card holders can enjoy up to 14 different activities for seven days, with the possibility of saving up to 50%.
From historical tours of Barcelona to nautical experiences in kayaks, catamaran trips, paddle surf yoga and visits to emblematic places such as the fishermen’s guild of Barceloneta, the card offers a wide range of options.
The initiative seeks to create a legacy after the America’s Cup, encouraging participation in nautical activities, generating interest and bringing the sea closer to the public.
The variety of options provides a unique opportunity for residents and visitors to explore the riches of Barcelona’s coastline and discover the diversity of maritime practices available.
Barcelona Card Sea to promote the Blue Economy
The economic impact of the America’s Cup in Barcelona is significant, estimated at 1.2 billion euros and the creation of 19,000 jobs.
Turisme de Barcelona recognizes the importance of the so-called “blue economy”, which currently employs 16,186 people and represents a turnover of 3,938 million euros, equivalent to 3.9% of the city’s turnover.
With 1,175 companies related to the nautical sector, the economic momentum extends throughout the Barcelona area.
In line with these objectives, the Barcelona Card Sea not only seeks to offer maritime experiences, but also contributes to strengthening the blue economy by encouraging participation in nautical activities and consolidating Barcelona as a leading destination for maritime competitions.
Reconnecting with the sea: more than a card, a commitment
The initiative arises from the realization that, despite having 4.8 kilometers of beaches and 16.7 kilometers of coastline, the presence of sailing boats in Barcelona is relatively low compared to motor boats.
A report by the National Association of Nautical Companies reveals that Catalonia registered 1,151 boat registrations in 2022, highlighting the preference for jet skis, motor boats and sailing.
The Barcelona Card Sea aims to change this dynamic by encouraging the practice of nautical sports and the love of sailing. In addition, the America’s Cup regatta will be used to strengthen society’s connection with the sea.
