Project “Cirerers” is the name of the tallest wooden building in Spain that was recently inaugurated in Barcelona.
It has eight floors with 35 homes that will be inhabited by 45 people and is located in the Roquetes neighborhood of Barcelona.
The project was born with community logic. All in order to open spaces to the neighborhood with housing solutions to fight against real estate speculation in Catalonia.
This new housing model seeks to provide affordable housing. The initial returnable capital contribution is between 19,000 and 29,000 euros, with monthly installments ranging from 450 to 720 euros.
How Spain’s tallest wooden building came into being
The building was designed by the Celobert architectural cooperative.
It was designed with a communal perspective with reduced private spaces of 50 square meters on average. The aim is to be able to increase the space for community use, some 771 square meters.
The construction was carried out using an industrialized construction system in cross-laminated timber, which gives the project a sustainable character.
This is the cooperative’s largest project, which has the same projection as “La Chalmeta”, located in the Marina district of Barcelona.
There are also 32 families living there.
With these new tenants, the entity will have surpassed 100 members living in this housing model.
The Cirerers project is another initiative in addition to the ones already advanced by Sostre Cívic. There is also the La Balma building in Poblenou).
