Barcelona is dressing up in its best nautical finery to welcome the America’s Cup next summer and the city is sparing no effort to project this international event as the event of the year capable of attracting visitors from all over the world.
In a joint effort between Turisme de Barcelona, the Agència Catalana de Turisme and the organizers of America’s Cup Events (ACE), the City of Barcelona has taken the good news to London, presenting the America’s Cup 2024 aboard the iconic yacht ‘Cutty Sark’.
The America’s Cup is not only a high-caliber sporting competition; it is an opportunity for Barcelona to shine on the international stage.
The London launch, which took place at the majestic ‘Cutty Sark’, aims to captivate sailing and boating enthusiasts from around the world.
Countries with a strong tradition in these sports, such as the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, the United States and Italy, are represented by teams that will compete after the two preliminary regattas in Vilanova i la Geltrú and Jeddah.
Using virtual reality and immersive experiences, the organizers have transported attendees to the maritime and nautical tradition of Barcelona.
From the transformation of the coastline to the gastronomy and cultural heritage, the presentation in London highlighted the charms that the city has to offer to those attending the America’s Cup.
Barcelona: more than just the venue for the America’s Cup, an unforgettable destination
The director of Promoció de Turisme de Barcelona, Mateo Asensio, emphasized the city’s sporting tradition and its capacity to organize major sporting events. He affirmed that the America’s Cup will once again open up the coastline, offering residents and visitors new nautical experiences.
For his part, the executive director of the Catalan Tourism Agency, Patrick Torrent i Queralt, stressed that the America’s Cup “transcends the nautical field and embraces other aspects towards environmentally sustainable quality tourism”.
Unforgettable experiences for attendees
The America’s Cup presentation in London not only focused on the competition itself, but offered a unique insight into the experiences that await visitors to Barcelona.
ACE organizing director Leslie Ryan said that Barcelona has a wide variety of experiences to offer, something the participating teams have experienced firsthand during their stay in the Catalan capital in recent months.
The America’s Cup is presented not only as an elite competition, but also as an event that can be enjoyed free of charge from the beaches of Barcelona. Large screens distributed along the coastline will make it possible to follow the action live, bringing the excitement of sailing to everyone.
