In a night of pure culinary magic, Barcelona was the setting for the Michelin Gala 2024, an event that brought together the titans of Spanish gastronomy.
Hosted by Andreu Buenafuente at the Barcelona International Convention Center, the city celebrated the well-deserved recognition of its gastronomic excellence.
Three Stars to enjoy
The Disfrutar restaurant, for years a candidate for the coveted three Michelin stars, finally had its night of triumph. In a gala full of emotions, Eduard, Mateu and Oriol, the chefs behind Disfrutar, received a standing ovation when they received the highest gastronomic award.
This recognition comes after standing firm with two stars and accumulating awards that catapulted them among the best restaurants in the world.
The Michelin Guide 2024 also brought good news for two other Barcelona restaurants. Quirat, directed by Víctor Torres, has been awarded a Michelin star. This hotel restaurant stands out for its signature cuisine, using local products.
On the other hand, Suto, a Japanese gastronomic corner run by chef Yoshi Suto, has also been recognized with a star, demonstrating that culinary diversity shines in Barcelona’s gastronomic scene.
Sustainability recognized for Emporium and L’Agadir del Delta at the Michelin Gala 2024
The Michelin Guide celebrates not only culinary art but also a commitment to sustainability. Emporium in Castelló d’Empúries and l’Agadir del Delta in Amposta were awarded the coveted Green Star for their sustainable practices. This recognition underlines the importance of environmental responsibility in haute cuisine.
The night of the Michelin Gala 2024 also saw special distinctions in Catalonia. Josep Roca, sommelier at Celler de Can Roca, received the award for Best Sommelier in the country. Martina Puigvert of Les Cols in Olot was honored as the Best Young Chef, highlighting her talent at the helm of this family restaurant.
In addition, Juan Carlos Ibáñez, from Lasarte restaurant in Barcelona, was awarded the prize for Best Room Service, recognizing excellence in the art of service.
Echoes throughout Spain: Noor achieves Three Stars in Cordoba
Culinary recognition spread beyond Barcelona. In Córdoba, Paco Morales’ restaurant Noor was awarded the coveted three Michelin stars, offering a culinary experience that rescues the Andalusian tradition.
In addition, Venta Moncalvillo in Daroca, La Rioja, was upgraded from one to two stars, consolidating its position as a gastronomic reference.
The Michelin Gala 2024 has left a trail of stars on the Spanish gastronomic scene. Barcelona, with its spectacular trio of stars for Disfrutar, along with other accolades in Catalonia and beyond, proves that culinary excellence in Spain shines brighter than ever.
