Barcelona: the almost ideal European city

Barcelona: la ciudad europea casi ideal

According to the “World’s Best Cities” ranking, described by the Bloomberg agency as “the most complete study” that classifies the best cities in the world, Barcelona consolidated its position as the almost ideal European city.

In the ranking, which analyzed a total of 100 cities around the world, the Catalan capital rose three positions behind London, Paris, New York, Tokyo and Dubai.

The study, published by the consulting firm Resonance Consultancy, seeks to compare different aspects of cities, such as their tourist attractiveness, their level of livability for its citizens, cultural and entertainment offerings.

It also analyzes different economic, social and urban indicators.

Barcelona: the almost ideal European city

In the ranking, Barcelona ranked sixth as one of the best cities in the world to work and live in.

It was ahead of other cities such as Rome and even Madrid, which ranked eighth.

The experts at Resonance Consultancy called Barcelona “the almost ideal European city” for several reasons:

  • It enjoys an “almost perfect year-round” climate, which allows citizens and visitors to enjoy its beaches, parks, urban and mountain sites, among others.
  • It has a surprising, beautiful, striking and colorful architecture.
  • It has beautiful artistic, sophisticated and bohemian buildings.
  • It registers an average of 12 million tourists a year.

These and other attributes Barcelona has.

Another advantage is that Barcelona is committed to being a greener city and public initiatives and policies have been aimed at achieving this goal.

Tourist rentals, real estate supply and the recovery of commerce after the pandemic have also been regulated.

Another indicator taken into account was related to the perceived quality of the city. This indicator incorporates aspects such as climate, places of interest, safety and the idiosyncrasy of the neighborhoods.

Also evaluated were the city’s attractions, infrastructure, institutions, museums, universities, airport connectivity and availability of convention centers.

According to World’s Best Cities, tourism is returning to Barcelona. Upon returning, visitors have found a city with more difficulties for vehicle access due to the restriction of their use and the increase of bike lanes.

It is a city where Superblocks have been implemented instead of streets and parking lots. Green spaces, playgrounds and sitting areas are preferred.

Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, was the city honored with an honorary award in recognition of courage, bravery and resilience.
