The Barcelona Wax Museum is going through a difficult time in the face of an 81% plunge in sales during the pandemic. This situation generated an economic gap of around 70,000 euros.
The museum did not escape the serious effects of the pandemic on cinemas, museums, theaters and especially on sites such as the Wax Museum, which were sustained by the visit of tourists.
As a result of the border closures and the drop in tourism, along with the confinement, the Museum has seen its sales plummet.
In order to cover this shortfall and stay alive, the Museum has resorted to short-term loans.
The wonders of the Barcelona Wax Museum
It is located at the end of the Rambla, just inside a 19th century mansion.
It was founded by the architect and set designer Enrique Alarcón and he chose this building because it conveyed mystery and charm.
Its installations house more than 120 figures, including classic characters such as Picasso and Don Quixote, as well as contemporary personalities such as Greta Thunberg, Billie Eilish, Snowflake, among others.
It also has two themed bars: the Fairy Forest and the Passage of Time. The complex employs about 40 people and rents space for private events and filming.
It also has interactive technology and 28 thematic rooms distributed over 1,800 square meters of floor space.
It was remodeled and since its incorporation in 1972, it has sought to incorporate between 10 and 15 figures to its exhibition each year.
