Oriol Bohigas, a renowned architect who promoted the transformation of our city, passed away on November 30 at the age of 96.
In tribute to his life and work, the Barcelona City Council held a tribute in his memory. For this purpose, relatives, friends and personalities from the world of literature, architecture and politics gathered in the Saló de Cent.
However, in addition to this meeting, the main tribute will be that a street or square in Barcelona will be named after Oriol Bohigas, as announced by Mayor Ada Colau.
Who was Oriol Bohigas
Architect by profession, during the eighties he held the position of Urban Planning Delegate in the first democratic City Council. He then served as Councilman of Culture, as well as a humanist and intellectual.
He was also director of the School of Architecture, as well as editor and writer of dozens of books on architecture and urban planning.
He even became a promoter of the renovation stages of the Miró Foundation and a promoter of the renovation of the Ateneo in Barcelona.
He was remembered as a modern man with innovative ideas aimed at recovering the sea and light for the city. He was a man of action.
He sincerely and deeply loved Barcelona, which, together with his work, earned him the city’s gold medal in 2018.
