Barcelona’s nightclubs reinvent themselves: a wave of renovations flooded the city

Revitalizing Barcelona’s nightlife

Barcelona has a nightlife as vibrant as it is diverse. However, over the years, several of its iconic clubs and bars have failed to keep pace with the times. Between the demand of a younger crowd and new leisure trends, the city’s nightlife scene needed a change.

Fortunately, this summer, things are taking an exciting turn. Some of the city’s most legendary nightclubs are taking advantage of the warmer months for a rejuvenating facelift. The intention is to renovate their spaces not only from an aesthetic point of view, but also by adapting to new technologies and public demands. Meanwhile, Carmen Zapata, known as the “mayoress of the night,” is trying to find the right balance to regulate and revitalize the Catalan nightlife.

Sutton: a new dawn

Sutton nightclub, located in the iconic Tuset St., has temporarily closed for a total refurbishment. The changes include improvements in light and sound technology, and redesign of its secondary room. One of the most interesting additions is a DJ booth in the bathroom.

Soon, Sutton plans to reopen its doors with several relaunch parties starting September 19. They assure that although the design will change, the club will maintain its luxurious and classic essence. With all-new lighting and an upgraded sound system, visitors can expect an immersive experience.

Bóveda: a return to sound

Another emblematic venue undergoing renovations is Bóveda, in Poblenou. This venue has been a haven for live music lovers for years. However, problems with soundproofing led to the cancellation of all its concerts last November. After getting its 10-year lease renewed, Bóveda has decided to tackle the problem head-on.

The current works aim to completely soundproof the place, allowing live music to once again fill its walls. In addition to the sound, other surprises are expected when it reopens in a couple of months. With improved acoustics, Bóveda will be able to offer nights full of music with superior quality.

Boris and nostalgic return

The new discotheque Boris will occupy the site of the former Bacarrá club on Carrer de Bori i Fontestà. This venue has been undergoing an intense renovation for months and is preparing to open in October. The idea is to capture the interest of thirty-somethings in Barcelona’s uptown area with a space full of privates and a unique atmosphere.

Behind the project is the Bordas family of the Costa Este group, who seek to revive a space that languished for a long time. With the stamp of a new generation, this place promises to become a key point for nightlife in the area.

Ribelino’s: a reimagined classic

Ribelino’s, located next to the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya, is ready for its comeback after 15 years of closure. Under the management of BN Grup, this space will be transformed into a “sophisticated day club”, led by renowned mixologist Adrià Bonell. This relaunch plans to attract new audiences, looking for a different niche than the traditional nightclubs.

Luz de Gas and other renovations in the uptown area

Luz de Gas, another pillar of Barcelona’s music scene, will reopen renovated in early September. Following a change of ownership, the focus will be on attracting a younger audience. A new central bar will be introduced and the technical aspects of the venue will be modernized. The renovations aim to return the venue to being a hub of entertainment in the city.

On the other hand, Joan Llongueras square will see its own transformation. The disco El Cinco closes its doors to make way for El Cuatro, a collaborative project between Galera Group and La Traviesa. In addition, the nearby bar Sideral will become 4 Latas Beethoven, also appealing to a renewed public.

A new era of nightlife in Barcelona

Barcelona seems to be entering a new era of nightlife. Through bold renovations and a fresh approach, these clubs and bars are ready to face the future. With combinations of tradition and modernity, they seek to attract both new generations and long-time lovers.

Undoubtedly, these renovations bring with them a promise: Barcelona’s nightlife will not only stand the test of time, but will rise with it.
