The video game industry is constantly growing and expanding, and Barcelona has become one of the main destinations for companies in the sector. A further sign of this is the recent €25 million investment by a group of European industry pioneers to create a new studio in the city – Bespoke Pixel.

Why open a videogame studio in Barcelona?

According to the acting Minister of Business and Labor, Roger Torrent, this decision demonstrates the consolidation of Catalonia as a reference ecosystem in the field of video games. Torrent stressed that the video game industry is a strategic sector for the Catalan economy, as it generates a large volume of business and is a source of quality employment. At this moment, the studio starts its work with a number of 50 jobs.

Barcelona will become Bespoke Pixel’s main headquarters in Europe and will be dedicated to the design and development of AAA video games for console and PC. The founders of the company have had the support of Barcelona Activa and Acció, of the Generalitat de Catalunya, to carry out this ambitious project.

For her part, the president and councilwoman for Economic Promotion of the City Council, Raquel Gil, pointed out that “the city is a great hub of entrepreneurship, creativity and the video game industry”. Gil stressed that Barcelona Activa “is doing a very good job in creating quality employment and accompanying international companies seeking to establish themselves in the city”.
