Classic bus parade in Barcelona to travel through time

Classic bus parade in Barcelona to travel through time

This first weekend of June, Barcelona will be dressed in nostalgia and historical pride to receive the Classic Bus Exhibition. This annual event is organized by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), the TMB Foundation, Sagalés, and the Association for the Recovery and Conservation of Buses (ARCA).

For two days, the Reina María Cristina Avenue will be the stage where more than thirty antique buses will be on display.

A weekend to appreciate classic buses

The event begins today, Saturday, June 1, with the opening of the exhibition at 4:00 pm and will run until 9:00 pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to admire these historic vehicles in an environment that combines the past, present and future of urban transportation.

Between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., the children’s theater show “The Little Story of the Bus” will be presented, designed to entertain and educate children about the evolution of buses in the city. Places for this show are limited, so it is necessary to register at the welcome tent located on the avenue.

On Sunday, June 2, the day will begin at 9:00 am and run until 12:30 pm, with the highlight being an impressive parade of classic buses at 11:00 am.

This parade will start at the Venetian Towers and will go through Espanya square, down Paral-lel avenue and reach Drassanes square, next to the sea, to then return to the starting point.

Treasure on wheels

Among the vehicles featured in the exhibition are true jewels of the historical heritage of the TMB Foundation. The Tilling-Stevens, which inaugurated the Barcelona bus network in 1922, the 1936 Dodge 265, the 1955 Chausson 59, and the emblematic ACLO 410 double-decker are just a few examples of the buses that will be on display.

These vehicles not only represent the technological and stylistic evolution of public transport, but are also silent witnesses of the social and urban transformation of Barcelona over the decades.

In addition to historic buses, the exhibition will also feature more recent models, such as the MAN SD 200 from the 2000-2012 series, specially restored to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Barcelona Bus Turístic.

Innovation and sustainability

The exhibition will not only focus on the past; there will also be a space dedicated to the latest technology buses that are part of the TMB network. These modern vehicles stand out for their low or even total absence of polluting emissions, reflecting the city’s commitment to a more sustainable future.

The integration of these buses into the exhibition underscores the continuing evolution of public transport towards greener and more efficient alternatives.
