Barcelona is getting ready to receive a unique musical event with “Clàssica a la platja”. The Gran Teatre del Liceu, L’Auditori and the Palau de la Música Catalana are joining forces to offer two free concerts on the Bogatell beach, to be held on June 20 and 21, 2023, just before the celebration of Sant Joan.
This initiative is supported by Barcelona Obertura, a cultural program that seeks to attract classical music lovers to the city, and the Barcelona City Council.
These three important musical facilities come together to bring music to a diverse and wide audience, bringing the musical experience to a natural and open-air environment.
The main concerts will be held on the Bogatell beach, but three shows will also be organized in entities linked to the neighborhood surrounding the beach.
In this way, it seeks to involve the local community and encourage the participation of all citizens in this unique musical experience.
Clàssica a la platja, unforgettable concerts
The set-up for these concerts will be impressive. A stage 20 meters wide by 16 meters deep, covered by an orbit-type dome, will be installed.
This space will bring together 73 musicians from the Liceu Symphony Orchestra and 80 from the OBC (Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya).
The lighting will have 100 spotlights and the sound will reach a distance of 200 meters, allowing at least 10,000 people to enjoy the concerts.
For those unable to attend in person, the concerts will be broadcast live on Betevé, bringing the event into every home.
In addition, they can be viewed through CaixaForum+, the digital platform dedicated to the dissemination of culture and science on a delayed basis.
Other activities
The initiative will also be accompanied by the choirs of L’Orfeó Català, who will offer several choral singing workshops near the beach, as well as three concerts.
This will make it possible to bring music to groups that, for reasons of functional diversity or health, would not be able to enjoy live concerts on the beach.
“Clàssica a la platja” is an exceptional opportunity to enjoy classical music in a unique and relaxed environment.
The repertoire of the concerts will include masterpieces by renowned composers, such as Maurice Ravel’s “Boléro” and Antonín Dvorák’s “New World Symphony”.
The concerts will be conducted by outstanding musical directors, such as Josep Pons and Ludovic Morlot, who will bring these magnificent compositions to life.
No ticket reservations are required for concerts. Attendees will only need to bring a towel, a dinner to enjoy during the event and arrive in plenty of time to secure a good spot on the beach.
