Construction work for the America's Cup is speeding up

The prestigious America’s Cup sailing event is leaving its mark on the port of Barcelona, with a significant transformation in the Port Vell.

With a year to go before the start of the regatta, the works are progressing at a steady pace, with an investment of approximately 120 million euros between public and private funds.

One of the main changes that citizens will be able to enjoy is the opening of almost two kilometers of promenade along the seafront that were previously inaccessible.

These new pedestrian areas will allow locals and visitors to enjoy a privileged view of the regattas, with the start and finish of the AC40 and AC75.

The Barcelona dock, which is home to the base of the host Emirates Team New Zealand, has been redeveloped and freed of ferry activity. In this context, the World Trade Center has also been remodeled and will become a privileged vantage point from which to watch the competition.

In addition to these improvements to the environment, bleachers have been set up for the public at various strategic points, such as in front of the Mirador building on Rambla Nova Bocana, where the Italian team’s base, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, is also located.

The transformation of the Port Vell also includes the reform of the fishing area and the construction of a new fish market that will be open to the public from February.

The new fish market will have an elevated walkway that will allow visitors to observe the classification of fish and will house a restaurant.

On the Espanya pier, the Imax building has been transformed into the America’s Cup House, a museum and interactive space that tells the story of the competition.

In addition, the Maremàgnum will also undergo a remodeling to incorporate a new gastronomic space.

The president of the Port of Barcelona, Lluís Salvadó, emphasizes that the America’s Cup has been promoting numerous projects in the port. These initiatives, which include some twenty works, have been backed by public and private investment to prepare the city for this renowned event.

More than a competition

The America’s Cup is not only a high-level sporting competition, but it also boosts the city’s urban and tourism development. The opening of new pedestrian areas and the improvement of facilities will allow Barcelona to welcome visitors and spectators with a renewed and attractive environment.

The America’s Cup is leaving a lasting impression on the port of Barcelona with a series of improvements and transformations that will benefit citizens and visitors alike.
