Tell us about yourself, who is Cristina Baigorri?
I am a person who is enthusiastic about fulfilling dreams. These days I am rereading a book (“First you have to learn to row” by Richard Bode) that I think sums up well what I am referring to. In the second chapter, the author talks about how we make mistakes when, when navigating, we believe that taking land references is the only reliable method of navigation. However, with this practice, we forget to react to the wind change in the boat and, above all, in us. It refers, in short, to not trusting what life is telling us and wanting to “assure” a result when we see that it leads nowhere. As you can see I am very sea and now that I live between Madrid and Barcelona I realize how important it is in my life. I am committed to a professional change and I feel fortunate to be able to do so. My new area of work is communication.
What is your relationship with Barcelona and how would you define it using 3 adjectives?
My relationship with Barcelona is total. I was born in Sabadell (just 20km from there) and for 15 years I lived in the neighborhood of Gracia. It is a city bustling with cultural activity and where its inhabitants enjoy a high quality of life due to its surroundings (the sea and the mountains), the climate and the size of the city.
What is the corner or neighborhood of Barcelona that you like the most and why?
My corner of the city, without a doubt, is the neighborhood of Gracia and, in particular, the area around the Plaza de la Llibertat. It amazes me how the different neighborhoods continue to maintain their own characteristics according to their origin or if, as in the case of Gracia, because they used to be their own municipality. For example, there are older people who refer to going to Plaza Catalunya as “going down to Barcelona”. I love its people, its traditions (the festivities of Gracia in August and how the neighbors come together for the street contest, the pilgrimage of Sant Magí and so many other events) and especially the neighborhood squares.
Tell us which two little-known restaurants you like the most and what would you suggest to our readers?
Two is going to be difficult for me but here goes.
In Gracia, there is a Lebanese man by the name of
Sannin in c/ Encarnació 44.
There you can eat the best Fatush salad, shawarma and the authentic Cous Cous in a clay pot in the whole city.
And on Vic Street there is a bodega called
Quimet (corner with Travessera)
where you can have a spectacular homemade vermouth and enjoy any of its tapas.
Oh, and if you want to see what a neighborhood civic center looks like, you should go to the
Bar Violeta (c/ Sant Joaquim 12)!
Everything in the neighborhood and within a 10-minute walk.
We know you are in the radio world and have a podcast. Tell us about it
