Humor transcends borders and finds its place in all languages. In Barcelona, comedy humor in Catalan takes center stage in a festival devoted entirely to stand-up comedy in this language.
Directed by Oriol de Balanzó and with Irene Minovas and Manel Vidal as artistic directors, the first Cruïlla Comèdia will take place from November 2 to 5, 2023 in various venues in the Poblenou neighborhood, Barcelona.
This event promises to be a celebration of laughter that will include different aspects of stand-up comedy, from one-hour one-man shows to rounds of comedians to open mics for those brave enough to take the stage.
The first Stand-Up Comedy Festival, humor in Catalan comes to Barcelona
The Casino la Aliança and the Centre Moral y Cultural will be the epicenters of this festival, where some of the most outstanding Catalan comedians will parade. Among the highlights of the program are the end of Marc Sarrats’ tour and the premieres of the shows by Òscar Andreu and Oye Sherman.
In addition, there will be a Roast, an event where comedians get together to perform humorous critiques, dedicated to Joel Diaz. Ana Polo, Manel Vidal and Andrea Farina are other protagonists of a line-up that will include around twenty comedians.
This festival was born as a humorous extension of the already well-known music festival Cruïlla, which now becomes independent and presents itself in its own format.
A unique humor offer in Catalan
During the four days there will be four special one-hour shows, four rounds with four comedians in each round and eight open mics for emerging and established comedians. In short, it will bring together the best of Catalan humor in one place for a short period of time.
If you have never attended a monologue show or if you have not had the opportunity to enjoy live comedy in Catalan, this is the perfect time to do it. The comedians range from absurd humor to black or everyday humor and offer proposals for all ages.
The specials
Among the special shows that will be presented at the Casino l’Aliança is the farewell tour of Marc Sarrats with his show “Alta Flipamenta” on the nights of November 2 and 5. This event will feature Godai Garcia as opening act and will be recorded for 3Cat’s new digital platform.
In addition, there will be a Roast dedicated to Joel Díaz, where several personalities will test the limits of humor without mercy, but always with the right to reply.
Finally, the first specials of two great figures of comedy in Catalan will be officially premiered: “L’hora d’Oye Sherman” and “Crida als ocells de colors llampants”.
