An exciting journey to the age of dinosaurs has arrived in Barcelona with the exhibition “Dinosaurs of Patagonia” at the Museu de la Ciència CosmoCaixa. Among the prehistoric giants that have captured the attention of visitors is the impressive Patagotitan majorum, the largest dinosaur ever to walk the Earth.
This fascinating exhibition, which will be in Barcelona until June 2, 2024, offers a unique opportunity to marvel at the majesty and scale of these ancient inhabitants of the planet.
You still have a chance to see the largest dinosaur in history.
The Patagotitan mayorum, discovered in Argentine Patagonia, is known for its enormous size: it reached 38 meters in length and weighed about 77 tons. This prehistoric colossus has been recreated in impressive detail in the CosmoCaixa exhibition, where visitors have the opportunity to see five of its original bones.
These bones include a femur, a scapula, a humerus, an ulna and a radius, which offer a striking view of the magnitude of this spectacular dinosaur.
The exhibition “Dinosaurs of Patagonia”, created by the Egidio Feruglio Paleontological Museum (MEF) and presented for the first time in Europe at CosmoCaixa, offers an educational and exciting experience for the whole family.
The exhibition consists of thirteen modules focused on the main dinosaurs found in the Patagonian region, grouped into carnivorous species, giant sauropods and other smaller herbivorous species.
In addition to the replica of the Patagotitan majorum, the exhibition includes fifteen casts of dinosaur skeletons and a selection of original fossils that allow visitors to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of paleontology.
Some history
Fossils of Patagotitan majorum were discovered in Patagonia in 2012 and have provided valuable information about this species that inhabited the Earth 101 million years ago.
Thanks to these findings, scientists have been able to determine that Patagotitan majorum was one of the largest dinosaurs that ever existed, surpassing even the famous Tyrannosaurus rex in size and weight.
In addition to the Patagotitan majorum, visitors can admire a variety of species, from carnivores and herbivores to hunters and feathered creatures, offering a complete overview of the fascinating world of dinosaurs.
Patagonia’s importance in the study of dinosaurs lies in its exceptional fossil record, which has provided a unique window into the Earth’s prehistoric past.
The exhibition “Dinosaurs of Patagonia” will be at the Museu de la Ciència CosmoCaixa in Barcelona until June 2, before traveling to CaixaForum Madrid from July 18. Don’t miss the opportunity to discover the fascinating world of dinosaurs.
