Headquartered in Badalona, the Enrique Tomás Foundation was created with the aim of donating between six and eight million euros in the medium term to fight hunger and invest in research.
Its leader, Enrique Tomás himself, made the announcement last week at the Teatro Zorrilla in Badalona. The social entity is the project he is currently most excited about.
The Foundation bears his name and all his family, collaborators and friends actively participate in it.
Tomás said at the launch:
“We are a very fortunate family and because of that, today we created an instrument to help other families who are not so fortunate.”
The ham businessman’s ambition is to use these resources to fight hunger, promote other social purposes and invest in science and research.
The scope of the Enrique Tomás Foundation
In addition to offering the collaboration to Mensajeros de La Paz, the Foundation already has a second benefactor through which it will develop its strategy to fight hunger: the World Central Kitchen.
This is a food preparation NGO for crisis situations led by chef Carles Tejedor. The objective will be to “prevent the hunger of tomorrow”.
The first project will finance the construction of water wells in a Ugandan village.
There is an orphanage where the African Masaka Kids live, a group of children who became known worldwide during the pandemic with a viral video where they danced to the song Jerusalema.
This initiative will also be channeled through music producer Silvia Álvarez of BCA Music.
Science and research
Another line of the Enrique Tomás Foundation will be used to invest in science and research.
The first project in this line is to support the scientist and entrepreneur Pilar Mateo in her development of a life-saving insecticide paint.
This paint helps fight mosquitoes that transmit diseases such as Ebola, malaria, Zika virus and dengue fever.
The Foundation will be funded through three revenue streams designed by the entrepreneur:
- It will allocate 10% of the sales of Glamurós ham, the most special ham sold by the brand and considered the best among the best.
- Through the launch of the “Social and Personal Balance” program, with the participation of experts such as Rafael Santandreu, author of the bestseller “El arte de no amargarse la vida” (The art of not becoming bitter in life). Also the psychiatrist Marian Rojas Estapé, author of the book “How to make good things happen to you” Through her talks we will fill theaters and the funds raised from ticket sales will go to the Foundation.
- Other projects based on the talent of the members of the social entity and their commitment.
