Who does not have to use the mask?
Everyone is required to wear a facemask in public, with the following exceptions: children under 6 years of age and adults with difficulties
- severe respiratory symptoms that worsen with mask use
- to put on or take off the mask without assistance
- and behavioral disorders that make it impossible to wear the mask.
Mask use in the car
The Generalitat establishes that the mask is mandatory if the occupants of the car do not live together. For example, if all occupants constitute a family living in the same house, then the mask is not necessary. However, the obligation changes if the driver is sharing the car with, for example, a neighbor or office colleague.
Use of masks with bicycles and skateboards
However, when it comes to bicycles, skates or skateboards, the Generalitat provides the following: the mask is mandatory when using a bicycle, skates or skateboard.
- for recreational purposes, i.e., for walking, cycling or
- for any type of comm uting (to work, to the supermarket, etc.)
The exception to the wearing of the mask is for sporting purposes. For example, road or mountain bikers are not required to wear a face mask during their sport.
Mask use on electric or non-electric scooters
In both cases, the same restrictions explained in the previous section apply. If the scooter is used for walking or to go to a specific point, the mask must be worn.
Mask cannot be replaced with a face shield
The use of the mask is mandatory and cannot be substituted with a face shield. This is considered as a complement to the mask, but not a replacement. It is advisable to use the face shield whenever there is a possibility of getting splashed.
