Innovation and local pride
The Minister of Enterprise and President of the Circuit de Barcelona, Roger Torrent, described the event as an “innovative and extraordinary proposal” that will have the citizens as a key protagonist.
For his part, the Councilor for Sports of the Barcelona City Council, David Escudé, stressed that Barcelona is “one of the best cities in the world for organizing and hosting sporting events”.
Despite the enthusiasm of the organizers and many fans, the event has not been without controversy. Several neighborhood associations and environmental organizations have expressed their strong opposition. Eixample Respira described the event as “nonsense”.
