The owner of four Gaudí doors that he claims come from La Pedrera (a building built by the architect between 1906 and 1910), put them up for sale through the Wallapop portal.
On this well-known Internet sales portal, the four doors are listed for which a sum of 10,000 euros is being asked, i.e. 2,500 euros for each piece.
The doors appeared for sale since mid-January 2022 on Wallapop and were classified in the second-hand section.
The seller identified himself as Francisco located in La Seu d’Urgell (Lleida).
For its part, the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera questioned the authenticity of the four doors, although Luis Guellburt, an expert in Gaudí’s furniture, does not doubt that they are true works of the master.
He affirms that the moldings and the way they are made were undoubtedly built in Gaudí’s time.
Although the owner of the doors removed the ad, the images can still be seen on the blog Salvem la rotonda.
Gaudi’s four doors for sale
The expert Guellburt indicated that in his opinion “in this day and age no one would go to the trouble of carving such a door, which would cost around 5,000 euros. Also, the value for painting them to make them look old and then being able to sell them on Wallapop for only 2,500 euros. I would lose a lot of money.”
The doors are in a poor state of preservation and are painted in an ochre color.
Three of them still preserve the original plaster frame decorated with plant-inspired undulations.
They were apparently removed in the middle of a renovation of the Pedrera.
