The Barcelona City Council announced the implementation of the Cultural Kangaroo program, which aims to provide families with children under 12 years of age with access to different cultural centers, theaters, museums, exhibitions and festivals in the city.
The goal is to be operational as of next May.
The pilot program will involve the participation of six cultural centers in Barcelona including:
The Museu Picasso, the Teatre Lliure, La Virreina Centre de la Imatge, the Barcelona Poesia festival, La Capella and the Centre Cultural Fabra i Coats.
Each of these centers will offer different services for children to facilitate the access of adults to the cultural offerings of the city.
Barcelona lacks recreational areas for children with disabilities
Cultural Kangaroo, free service
Among the services offered by the participating cultural centers, some of them are punctual for a special exhibition or event. Others will be of a permanent nature and ensure a place for children during the cultural visits of adults.
For example, at the Teatre Lliure, the children’s dynamization service can be enjoyed with prior reservation for the Montjuïc venue.
It will be for weekend evening performances from May through October.
For its part, the Museu Picasso will offer from September the service of children’s dynamization for visits with free admission to the museum. They will be held on Thursdays starting at 4:00 p.m. and during the first Sunday of each month.
As for La Virreina Centre de la Imatge, the LAB space of the Palau de la Virreina will offer from May to October the service of children’s dynamization in very specific spaces.
It will be offered during the inaugurations of the exhibitions of the center’s programs, as well as during the guided tours scheduled on weekends.
There will also be a special babysitting service during the visits that the center will receive as part of the Nit dels Museus.
Enjoy Barcelona with children
For its part, Fabra i Coats offers, on a permanent basis and inside its contemporary art center, a family space that will provide a babysitting service for people entering the exhibition halls.
In addition, when temporary exhibitions are inaugurated, as well as guided tours, a childcare service will be offered, but reservations are required.
During the Barcelona Poesia 2023 festival from May 13 to 15, there will also be a playroom for children. For older children there will be workshops and activities in the Jardí dels Tarongers.
