The famous urban acrobatic climber Alain Robert, also known as the “French Spiderman”, has been at it again in Barcelona.
On this occasion, the 60-year-old climber has climbed without safety measures on the facade of the Melià Barcelona Sky hotel, located in the Poblenou district.
He carried only a bag of powdered chalk and climbing shoes as his only resources to help him climb.
Despite the risk involved in climbing without a harness, Robert managed to reach the top of the 120-meter, 29-story building without endangering his life.
Although the act was quite a spectacle for those who witnessed the scene, the police were alerted by several witnesses and arrested the French climber on the spot.
In this way, Alain Robert, a 60-year-old climber, managed to scale the fourth tallest building in Barcelona without authorization.
Robert covered his fingers with climbing tape to protect himself from the hot surface of the building and used a bag of powdered chalk and climbing shoes.
He went up to the roof of the hotel in about half an hour and was detained by the police.
French Spiderman reappears
This is not something new for Robert, who has already made several climbs in the Catalan capital, including the Glòries tower on several occasions and the Arts hotel in 1999.
He is known for his climbs without ropes or harnesses and has scaled more than 150 structures around the world, including the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and the Empire State Building in New York City.
Although Robert has been arrested several times, he continues to climb and deliver his message about climate change and the importance of taking action to protect our planet.
However, this particular escalation has been seen as an attempt to raise awareness of climate change and drought.
With this event, Robert seeks to draw attention to the impact humanity has on the environment and the need to take action to protect our planet.
Although his message may be ambiguous because a climb without safety measures could be interpreted as a reckless act, the French climber’s intention was different.
He wants to call attention to the importance of protecting our natural environment.
The real goal of his feat
After reaching the summit, Robert declared that his feat was intended to draw attention to climate change and drought in Spain.
The country has been facing persistent drought and unusually warm temperatures in southern Europe have been exacerbated by global warming, scientists say.
