Camisería Pons has been in business for more than 130 years thanks to its commitment to quality and its ability to adapt to change.
Since its beginnings, the company has stood out for offering made-to-measure shirts made with top quality materials. Thanks to this, it managed to gain the trust of its customers and become a reference in the city of Barcelona.
During the 1960s and 1970s, the company experienced a golden age thanks to the boom in tourism in the city, which allowed it to expand its clientele and begin to export its products to other countries.
Over the years, Camisería Pons has dressed important personalities and has been recognised in the world of fashion and business with various prizes and awards.
Camisería Pons: from shirts to good bread
However, despite so many years of history and tradition, the shirts were left behind and gave way to shop windows with exquisite bread.
In 2019, the Cal Moliné bakery chain based in Manresa moved into the premises four years after Camisería Pons closed for good.
The new business had to maintain the old physiognomy and at the same time adapt to modernist elements.
A year before the closure of Camisería Pons in 2015, the shop became part of the select list of emblematic shops in the city.
In fact, the original owners were always faithful to its origins and did not touch any of the structure, neither the entrance sign, nor the shop window, the shelves or the wooden counter.
In this way, all the elements of the premises were documented as part of Barcelona’s untouchable heritage.
A heritage that the people of Barcelona can now continue to enjoy tasting a good loaf of bread.
A recognition of more than a century’s work
La Camisería Pons is an example worth remembering in past and present history of how a company can remain in business for more than a century thanks to its ability to adapt to market changes.
Its history began in Barcelona at the end of the 19th century, in 1891, when the young Eusebi Pons decided to open a small shirt shop in Hospital Street, in the heart of Barcelona.
From its beginnings, the Pons shirt shop was characterised by offering a quality product, made to measure and with first-class materials.
In the 1920s, the Pons shirt shop moved to Calle Fontanella, in a much more central and visible location.
During the 1960s and 1970s, the Pons shirt shop experienced a golden age thanks to the tourist boom in Barcelona, which allowed it to export its products to countries such as France, Germany and Japan.
