The bread will change its flavor forever. The bread quality standard directly affects common bread, sourdough, wholemeal bread, toasted bread, sliced bread, breadsticks, biscotti, grated bread, breadsticks or pita bread.
This is due to the fact that this law obliges bakeries to reduce by 20% the amount of salt used in the preparation of bread.
The rule is already in force and surely if you are a regular consumer of this product, you will have already noticed the change. Bread sure doesn’t taste like it used to.
The bread quality standard
It was approved by the Government in April 2019, with Royal Decree 308/2019, BOE of May 11, which came into force on July 1, 2019.
However, compliance was postponed until last Friday, April 1, 2022, to allow manufacturers to adapt to the guidelines,
Among other things, the regulation sets a new salt limit that reduces the use of sodium by 20%.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the standard involved a regulatory update that had been demanded by the producer sector. All in order to give the consumer the maximum guarantees in the products he/she consumes.
Prior to the passage of the law, the problem of excessive salt use had already been addressed by the industry. In fact, it had already begun to reduce sodium in bakery products to make them healthier.
Low-salt products are considered healthy.
