Next November 2022 and with an investment of more than 800 million euros, the IRYO high-speed train will start operating.
The private operator of the IRYO train, Air Nostrum and Trenitalia, will offer 32 daily frequencies, round trip, between the capitals for approximately one hour and for 18 euros (one way).
The high-speed rail network will start operating on November 25, 2022, offering the first routes between Madrid, Barcelona and Zaragoza. And just a few weeks later (from December 16), IRYO will also start its operation between Madrid, Valencia and Cuenca.
Likewise, by the first quarter of 2023, the connection with the south of the country to the cities of Seville, Malaga and Cordoba will be operational. In June of next year, Alicante and Albacete will follow, these being the last cities to join the IRYO network.
The railway company expects to operate 30% of the high-speed train frequencies in Spain.
It also aims to carry some 8 million passengers between Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Seville, Valencia, Cordoba, Alicante and Zaragoza when it starts operations.
In order to provide optimum service to the entire network, it will create around 2,600 direct and indirect jobs.
The IRYO high-speed train
Iryo’s arrival in Spain comes in the context of the liberalization of high-speed rail in the country, supported by the European Union regulations issued at the end of 2020.
Thanks to this guideline, the operator becomes the third company to offer these routes together with Renfe (AVE) and Ouigo.
IRYO offers users a “flexible” tariff system for any change. It offers routes starting at 18 euros (each way), to connect the capitals of Barcelona and Madrid.
The news is that as of September 18, tickets are now available for purchase through IRYO’s official website.
The company will conduct an initial launch campaign with promotional fares for users and great advantages for the first customers to purchase tickets.
IRYO App
As of November 25, being their first day of operation, they will also launch a mobile App and a points-based loyalty program.
The points can also be used in other partner companies of the operator, such as Meliá Hotels, Hoteles Only, YouAir Europa, among others.
IRYO also goes further with partners. It will focus on integrated mobility and has reached the first agreements with companies in the transport and tourism sectors to offer integrated tickets and travel packages.
In fact, it announced a code-share agreement with Air Europa to offer combined rail and air transportation.
