Barcelona is preparing to strengthen its air connections with Asia starting August 28, 2023, when Shenzhen Airlines will begin operating a direct flight between Barcelona and the Chinese city of Shenzhen.
This new connection, which had been previously announced, will be a significant boost for Barcelona-El Prat Airport, which continues to recover its activity and strengthen its international ties.
The direct flights between Barcelona and Shenzhen will be operated twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, and will be operated with an Airbus A330.
This new route will allow greater connectivity between the two cities and will promote commercial, cultural and tourism exchanges between Spain and China. It also represents a step forward in Barcelona Airport’s efforts to recover air traffic after the impacts caused by the pandemic.
Direct flight to Shenzhen, China
The addition of Shenzhen Airlines to the flight options from Barcelona to Asia is in addition to other existing connections, such as the direct flights to Beijing to be operated by Air China as of June 1.
These new routes are a positive sign of the recovery of international travel and tourism in the region, as Barcelona seeks to attract back Asian visitors who were unable to travel at the time due to pandemic restrictions.
Shenzhen Airlines is an airline based in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China, and is part of the Star Alliance, a global airline network recognized for excellence in service and quality of operations.
The company has code-share agreements with several airlines, which facilitates connectivity and the possibility of multi-destination travel.
