Feminizing Mossos, Bombers and Agents Rurals, operational bodies of the Generalitat, is one of the challenges and strategic objectives of the Departament d’Interior of the Generalitat.
The fight is led by Minister Joan Ignasi Elena. He indicates that for now, the most difficult challenge is in the fire prevention and extinguishing corps.
By percentages, in the Mossos there are 2001% of women and in the Agents Rurals 13%. However, in the Bombers corps the percentage is only 2.4% of the total number of personnel.
Measures to feminize Mossos, Bombers and Agents Rurals
With this challenge in mind, the Department of the Interior has been promoting a total of 20 measures that seek to advance towards gender equality in the Bombers de la Generalitat.
The measures aim to facilitate women’s access to the corps, improve their working conditions and work-life balance, as well as training facilities and infrastructures.
The objective is to reverse an injustice that has occurred throughout history, not only to do justice, but above all for efficiency, said the minister.
Some of the proposed measures
- Achieving body access and advocacy campaign for women.
- Ensure equal treatment and achieve parity within the corps.
- Prevent and respond to acts of sexual harassment.
- To achieve the reservation of vacancies for women (maximum 40% of the vacancies). This was one of the first measures announced through the implementation of calls for access and promotion of the Bombers corps.
- Eliminate the rope test in the physical tests of the entrance exams.
- Introduce the dummy drag test.
Likewise, a new section was introduced to the syllabus of the knowledge tests for the next entrance exams.
It will be entitled “Public policies on equal opportunities and non-discrimination”.
Pregnant women and mothers with children under 16 weeks of age will also be offered the possibility of requesting a postponement of the physical test until the next call. Even the possibility that the position he held in the first call-up may be kept for him.
Regarding this reserve of places, it will be applied for the first time in a new call for applications where they will be able to access the basic scale of Bombers de la Generalitat and which is expected to be published during the first quarter of 2023.
At the same time, the Department of the Interior launched an information campaign with the slogan “We need firefighters like you”.
The purpose is to promote the firefighting profession and to encourage women to apply.
In the last selection process in 2012 called by Bombers, 250 new positions were called. Of the 4,109 people who applied, only 422 women (10.27%) applied.
