Google Maps creates immersive 3D tour of Sagrada Familia and Camp Nou

Technology is advancing by leaps and bounds and Google Maps is not far behind. The popular mapping application has gone a step further by offering a unique immersive 3D tour experience to some of the world’s most iconic landmarks.

And Barcelona, with its impressive architecture and renowned landmarks, could not be left out of this innovative functionality.

When Google announced in May that it would revolutionize its maps application, many did not imagine what this transformation would really mean.

This new functionality allows you to explore 500 monuments and places of interest around the world, and fortunately, cities such as Madrid, Barcelona and Cordoba have been selected to be part of this experience.

Immersive 3D tour of the Sagrada Família and Camp Nou through Google Maps

If you are not yet familiar with the immersive view, let me explain what this fascinating feature is all about.

With just your cell phone, you can visit famous tourist sites without leaving your couch at home.

You will not need any additional device or augmented reality glasses. The technology behind this immersive view uses artificial intelligence to fuse billions of images from Google Maps and Street View, creating a multi-dimensional scene and a high-fidelity digital model.

This means that you will be able to see these places as if you were really there. In the case of Barcelona, you will be able to “visit” the majestic Sagrada Familia, the iconic Pedrera, the impressive Casa Batllo, the emblematic Camp Nou (even during construction) and the lively Plaza Catalunya.

These places can be explored both outside and inside, thanks to the immersive 3D view offered by Google Maps.

It is important to mention that although Google has announced that the functionality is already available, it is not yet available to all users.

However, don’t worry, this exciting experience will be available to everyone in no time.

Immersive view also for user routes

But Google’s innovation doesn’t stop at monuments and points of interest. The company is working to incorporate the immersive view into the routes users take through Google Maps.

This functionality, called “Immersive View for routes”, will be available in 15 cities by the end of this year, although none of them are Spanish at the moment.

Thanks to this new feature, users will be able to see their route ahead of time and also obtain additional information, such as air quality and weather conditions along the route.

Artificial intelligence will also simulate traffic at a given time, using historical driving trends. Whether you travel by car, on foot or by bicycle, you can enjoy a multidimensional experience on the move.
