We have an innovative solution against waste, due to the installation of new garbage cans in Ciutat Vella and Sant Martí in the last few weeks. This means that the spaces will have more anti-gull garbage cans and self-compacting garbage cans in different parts of Sant Martí and Ciutat Vella. Specifically, 15 self-compacting litter garbage cans and 19 more anti-gull garbage cans will be installed.

These new models were installed six months ago, and after their evaluation, their extension is endorsed. It should be noted that self-compacting litter garbage cans have a large capacity and are used in spaces with many uses and a large influx of people, since they can increase the volume of waste five times over. This waste can be collected in a standard waste garbage can.
Litter garbage cans in Ciutat Vella and Sant Martí with airtight design
These garbage cans have an airtight design that prevents animals from digging and the spread of bad odors. Likewise, these garbage cans have contributed and give a technological leap, since through an application can be connected to the management platform services involving the cleaning of the city. This system warns when the garbage can is approaching its maximum capacity.
These garbage cans are more sustainable because they reduce the frequency of collection, which means that the mobilization of vehicles for this task is reduced. They work with solar technology.
Litter garbage cans with more than 10 years of useful life
These are new litter garbage cans in Ciutat Vella and Sant Martí that have more than 10 years of useful life. Built in galvanized steel and polycarbonate to guarantee longevity. It also benefits people with reduced mobility, as it complies with accessibility regulations.
The 9 litter garbage cans installed have collected 203 m3 of waste during the first 6 months of operation. Each litter garbage can was emptied in 2/3 days on average and 73% of the operations were carried out once the litter garbage can was more than 80% full, making it an excellent cleaning system. Compared to the cost of the emptying operation, it is 8 times lower than that of a standard litter garbage can.
New litter garbage cans in Ciutat Vella and Sant Martí: 15 units installed in recent weeks
In recent weeks, a total of 15 more units of self-compacting litter garbage cans were installed in the access areas of the Bogatell, hard areas and Nova Icària beaches. On the other hand, due to the type of waste collected in this area, there are 12 garbage cans for containers and cans and 3 waste garbage cans, out of a total of 15 garbage cans.
The litter garbage cans in Ciutat Vella and Sant Martí with reduced mouths have lids to prevent seagulls from picking up waste and throwing it on the ground. Because of this, they have evaluated their performance and found that they work very well in preventing animals from getting waste out of the garbage cans.
In the Barceloneta district, 19 units are now installed, including 11 80-liter units on Carrer Andrea Doria and in the squares of Pompeu Gener, Antoni Genescà i Coromines and Poeta Boscà. The remaining 8 units of 120 liters in Paseo Marítim and Joan de Borbó near Drassanes.
