On May 18, 2023 will be celebrated the International Museum Day, DIM, and as every year, the Department of Culture of the Generalitat proposes to the Catalan museums to join the celebration.
On this occasion, the theme chosen by the International Council of Museums, ICOM is “Museums, sustainability and well-being”.
This year’s edition will include the participation of 90 museums from the Catalan capital and the Metropolitan Area. They will offer free admission during the Night of the Museums on Saturday, May 13.
In addition, open days and activities will be held on different dates, depending on the availability of each facility.
The communication campaign for IWD 2023 will focus on giving maximum visibility to the activities organized by museums and museum networks.
This will be done through an active media campaign and the dissemination of graphic materials proposed by ICOM.
In addition, a website dedicated to the DIM 2023 has been set up, which will publish an agenda with all the activities organized by the museum facilities.
International Museum Day: a team celebration
The collaboration of all the administrations with heritage responsibilities and museum networks has made it possible to carry out this initiative.
The objective is to show all the work done by museums and to highlight their importance in society.
ICOM (International Council of Museums) is leading the initiative for the celebration of the IWD.
It indicates that museums play a fundamental role in the sustainable development and well-being of communities.
As trusted institutions and places of social bonding, they are uniquely positioned to promote positive change.
Museums can contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through educational programs, exhibitions, community activities and research.
DIM: a unique opportunity
International Museum Day 2023 will be a unique opportunity to visit for free some of the most outstanding museums in Barcelona and the Metropolitan Area.
The most outstanding celebration is La Nit dels Museus in Barcelona on May 13, when museums will remain open until late at night.
The city and its Metropolitan Area will have 90 museums open, with an offer of 121 exhibitions and 86 activities ranging from guided tours to theatrical performances.
In addition, seven spaces will open for the first time during this cultural night.
The Night of the Museums is a unique opportunity to enjoy culture in a different and magical atmosphere.
We recommend that you consult the program of activities before the night of the event, as some activities have limited seating and require prior reservation.
Enjoy the opportunity.
