According to the latest study by the well-known travel booking platform Booking.com, Barcelona and Madrid are the preferred destinations in Spain for Christmas by international tourists. They also indicate that Seville, Malaga and Valencia follow.
According to the searches registered by this portal, the Catalan capital ranks seventh in searches worldwide.
In fact, Barcelona climbed two places with respect to the number of queries registered in 2021. Madrid, although it lost five places, remains in the “top 20” of the ranking, occupying position eleven.
Italians and French: international tourists who choose Barcelona most often
Segmenting by country, Booking.com indicates that the French choose to visit Barcelona as their first destination of choice. Italians choose exactly the same.
The Danes, on the other hand, are inclined towards the coast of Malaga for the Christmas season. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria generates more interest among Swedes.
Analyzing the global data, the platform indicates that the regions with the highest demand for bookings for these end-of-year dates are Paris in France, London in the United Kingdom and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
However, they point out that Vietnam is the destination that has recently attracted the most interest among international tourists. In fact, several of its cities are ranked in the “top 30”.
What about domestic tourism?
In this sense, Booking indicates that Spaniards prefer to continue betting on the known, on national tourism to spend these holidays.
Proof of this is that Madrid remains at the top of the ranking among the most preferred destinations at the local level. It is followed in Spain by Barcelona and Seville, cities that moved up one place in the ranking with respect to 2021, and Granada, which dropped two places.
In terms of international tourism, Spaniards are inclined to visit London, Paris, Andorra, Lisbon and Porto in Portugal.
In terms of value for money, the Booking.com study indicates that seven out of ten people will continue to prioritize their vacations.
At the same time, they are looking for better value for money. In this regard, more than half of the tourists (56%) want to save even more than in past years at the time of travel.
In this sense, 64% are thinking of further adjusting their travel budget and taking better advantage of the dates to travel: doing it during the week or booking during vacation days in low season, among other alternatives that help lower the budget.
Regarding the anticipation to make reservations, millennials are characterized by organizing trips at the last minute (53%), previous generations plan their trips further in advance.
They do it to get a good offer: 60% of Generation X and 54% of baby boomers.
