This year, in response to the challenge of the last two working days before the Christmas vacations, the Zoo has launched an innovative initiative called ‘Kangaroo Day’.
The novel initiative includes free admission to the Zoo on December 21 and 22, 2023 for “grandmothers, grandfathers, uncles, aunts, godfathers, godmothers and godfathers who bring a child” to the Zoo.
The term ‘Babysitter’s Day’ not only alludes to the affectionate nickname given to caregivers of children, but also anticipates a special activity during those two days.
Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in a family activity designed to get to know the zoo’s resident kangaroos better and learn about their fascinating lives in the wild.
Kangaroo Day’ and other activities at the Zoo
With the arrival of Christmas, the Barcelona Zoo joins the festivities with a special program of family activities.
Therefore, in addition to ‘Kangaroo Day’, the Barcelona Zoo has organized three Christmas camps for children from 5 to 14 years old, covering different parts of the holiday calendar. These are this year’s casales:
- “The Zoo Cooks” on December 21 and 22, 2023.
- “We travel with animals” from December 27 to 29, 2023.
- “Sign up to work for conservation” from January 2-5, 2024.
During the month of December, all zoo visitors will be able to enjoy free activities designed for this time of the year.
One of the highlights is “The Zoo Goblins”, a dramatized educational experience that invites children to help these mischievous characters in their mission to preserve the planet’s biodiversity.
This activity will take place in the Zoo’s amphitheater at 12:00 and 14:00, complemented by parades through the park.
Also, the craft workshop “Animals reciclats” will allow children to create animal figures using recycled materials on December 29th in the afternoon.
As a tradition, the “Good resolutions corner” will be set up to express wishes for the coming year and to leave a letter to the Three Wise Men. On December 24, the zoo’s team of educators will perform the traditional activity of making Tió poop.
