Mars Illumination: Torre Glòries immerses in a unique Martian experience

All of Barcelona and its inhabitants will embark on a unique odyssey to Mars from February 2 to 4, 2024. The iconic Torre Glòries, one of Barcelona’s most beloved landmarks, will be illuminated by the light of Mars in a show that promises to take viewers on a celestial Martian experience: Mars Illumination.

The mastermind behind this bold initiative is Swiss-Italian artist Elisa Storelli, whose work entitled ‘Look at the Sun’ will be part of the LlumBCN program. During the afternoons between 18:00 and 1:30, the Glòries Tower will reflect the position of the sun on Mars in real time.

In essence, it will be as if the building is transported to Mars during those hours, capturing the light of the red planet in its distinctive structure.

The complexity of this installation lies in its faithful representation of the Martian day, where some parts of the tower may be dark due to the specific position of the sun on Mars at that time. Although day and night on both planets are comparable, the difference in the position of the sun adds a special touch to this exhibit.

Mars Illumination in Barcelona: as if you were on Mars

Elisa Storelli’s lighting proposal will not only illuminate the Barcelona skyline, but will also provide viewers with a unique vision of what sunlight on Mars would be like if we were there.

This fascinating concept invites observers to contemplate a Martian landscape while strolling near the Torre Glòries during the days of the installation.

To make the most of this experience, during the days of the LlumBCN Festival, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the Mirador de la Torre Glòries in special extended hours until midnight.

But that’s not all, an exciting promotion has been announced: a 50% discount on all tickets. A tempting offer to enjoy a double sunset, both Mars and Earth, simultaneously.

The installation ‘Look at the sun’ seeks not only to dazzle visually, but also to provoke reflections on the connection between urban and planetary ecosystems. Elisa Storelli seeks to amplify these relationships and motivate viewers to consciously and responsibly contemplate their surroundings.

The initiative is part of the LlumBCN 2024 Festival.

This project is part of the outstanding program of the LlumBCN 2024 Festival, which presents a variety of artistic proposals from national and international artists.

Focusing on the relationship with the environment, environmental concerns and the impact of new technologies, the festival promises to be a fascinating exploration of the convergence between art, science and the beauty of space.

So, if you are in Barcelona during these days, do not miss the opportunity to witness this extraordinary light show.
