Meta-Park, the world’s first augmented reality zoo will be in Catalonia

Montnegre and Corredor Park, location of the augmented reality zoo.

Before telling you about Meta-Park and its incredible intention to start a zoo in which the animals are not alive, it is important to talk about one in particular, Copito the albino gorilla. Do you remember? Well, in case you don’t know who he is because maybe he’s not from your era, you should know that this is basically the icon of a generation.

Copito was the symbol of Barcelona. He was an albino gorilla, the only one known to man so far, who lived in the city’s zoo for more than 30 years. It should be noted that Copito died more than 19 years ago, but this will not prevent new generations from getting to know this particular animal, as white as snow.

Yes, Copito will be the central attraction of Meta-Park, the augmented reality zoo that will open its doors very soon, this September. It will be located in the Montnegre and Corredor Park, the interesting thing about this bet is that for the first time visitors to the site will be able to see a wide variety of animals in a metaverse, incredible! right?

This is the first zoo of its kind in the world, and will be installed on a farm that has more than 200 hectares that visitors will have to walk through with augmented reality glasses, which are, of course, the ones that will allow them to appreciate the animals and the gorilla in question.

So far, visitors to the zoo will be able to observe some 19 species, including, in addition to the gorilla, cheetahs, panda bears and wolves.

For the protection of biodiversity

The initiative is far from being merely transactional, because its objective is much more profound: to contribute to the protection of biodiversity and to promote knowledge of animals. In addition, it is clearly an excellent ethical alternative and replaces the traditional option of keeping them in captivity.

The animals that visitors will be able to see will be recreated virtually in a hyper-realistic way. And to make this a reality, the R&D department of Metaofix, the company that for months has been working with OVR, the decentralized Metaverse and world leader in augmented reality, has a team of 3D designers and developers.

In addition, the company collaborates with the best national and international studios specialized in animation that use the same modeling and animation techniques used by major Hollywood productions, as explained in a statement.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that the project is being executed with private investment and its financing is still open.
