For the first time in 40 years, CaixaForum exhibits to the public the tapestry “La estrella de Miró” (origin of the logo of “La Caixa”), which will be restored in front of the audience.
The star was born as a result of the assignment to renew the image of “La Caixa”. Joan Miró, in collaboration with the textile artist Josep Royo, was in charge of this project. Together they made a monumental tapestry measuring 5 meters long by 2 meters high and weighing more than 200 kilos.
It was made of cotton, wool and hemp.
The large work of art was initially exhibited at the Museu de la Ciència (the current CosmoCaixa), and later taken to the headquarters of the organization where it has been on display for visitors and employees for the past 38 years.
The tapestry will now be on display at the CaixaForum in Barcelona for two months.
You can see it for free, but you must first make a reservation.

During the center’s opening hours, visitors will be able to observe the tapestry’s restoration work.
All of this so that attendees can appreciate how the restoration processes vital to the conservation of a work of art are carried out.
A small museographic project with videos, texts and images can also be seen in the room.
The aim is to show the history of the work and to exalt the textile technique used for its elaboration, as well as the work of the collaborators who manufactured it at the time.
The five-pointed star became the logo of “La Caixa” in 1980.
