Barcelona’s most important architecture festival returns to the city. It is the Model, a space for multidisciplinary reflection that will be held from April 20 to 30, 2023.
This was reported by the Barcelona City Council and stressed that it will be the right event for a meeting between professionals and organizations related to landscaping, architecture, urban planning and design of the city.
They will deal with topics of reflection through debates on architecture and urbanism. All in order to meet the social, political and climatic challenges of the 21st century.
The Model award at the architecture festival
The Model 2023 Award seeks to exalt Architectural Experimentation that motivates and encourages new local and international ideas and creations.
They can be in physical installations, digital architectures and thinking projects. Also creative projects to be developed during the days of the festival.
The prize will be awarded to groups or individuals who develop their projects in the aforementioned areas.
The award will consist of a monetary endowment and the opportunity to conceive and design various installations, advance augmented realities, curatorial projects or experimental projects.
There are three award categories:
- Facilities (endowed with 8,000 euros)
- Digital Architectures (endowed with 3,000 euros)
- Thinking and Curatorship (endowed with 4,000 euros)
During the first edition of the Model Festival of Architectures of Barcelona, around 75 entities participated and some 200 events and debates were held with more than 120 participants from all over the world.
The purpose of the award is to value the independent work of local and international creators. For this reason, Model invites architects, cultural researchers and curators to participate in Model 2023.

The reedition of the event will be led by the Mies van der Rohe Foundation, under the artistic direction of Eva Franch i Gilabert.
About the Model
The Barcelona Architecture Festival, Model, is a more recent experimental and visionary architecture festival created in the global context of cultural events.
The project was promoted and founded by the College of Architects of Catalonia, COAC and the Barcelona City Council in 2022. For the 2023 edition, the organization will be managed by the Mies van der Rohe Foundation.
Thus, the second edition of the event will be held from April 20 to 30, 2023.
The goal is to pick up last year’s legacy and present installations in the public space. Diversity of symposiums, augmented realities, workshops and experimental programs. A variety of proposals that will promote a space for exchange, learning and dissemination of ideas.
