By the end of 2022, Barcelona plans to inaugurate 500 square meters of vertical forest with suspended trees on Montjuïc. The gift was made to the city by the “la Caixa” Foundation. It will be the only vertical forest in the world to have suspended trees.
Vertical Forest contemplates a green area installed on a 12-meter-high façade. There will be 535 square meters of vegetal surface.
It will be located exactly in the old wall of the Metallurgy Palace (formerly the Pergola restaurant). Right on the Montjuïc site of Fira de Barcelona.
This beautiful forest has a cost of one million euros.
The “la Caixa” Foundation will give the Catalan capital this gift. All in order to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the inauguration of the CaixaForum building, which is located next door.
Green everywhere in Barcelona’s vertical forest
Elisa Durán, deputy general director of the “la Caixa” Foundation, said that the forest will have around 22,000 plants and 15 large trees.
They will also install 13 water tanks to cover up to 15 days of irrigation self-sufficiency.
The “la Caixa” Foundation wanted to replicate the experience they obtained with the vertical garden of the CaixaForum Madrid.
The vertical forest will feature colorful plants and colorful flowers.
The trees will be planted in huge pots 170 centimeters high and between 160 and 200 centimeters long.
Through QR codes, visitors to the forest will be able to have all the information about the species, vegetation and fauna that will live there.
