Barcelona’s outdoor municipal swimming pools are now fully operational, offering a refreshing escape during the hot summer days.
However, unlike beaches, enjoying these pools comes at a cost and year after year, prices continue to rise.
According to information provided by the City Council, the average cost of admission for adults is 10.32 euros, which represents an increase of 3.2% compared to last summer.
This price is significantly higher compared to other Spanish cities, such as Madrid, where the price is 2.25 euros; Valencia, where it costs 3.35 euros; and Seville, where the cost is five euros.
These cities, unlike Barcelona, have kept their fares unchanged from last year.
Municipal outdoor swimming pools: each at different prices
One particularity of Barcelona’s municipal swimming pools is that each has a different entrance fee, resulting in significant differences in cost.
For example, the cheapest pool is the one at the Centre Esportiu Municipal (CEM) Guinardó, with an entrance fee of 6.37 euros, while the most expensive is the one at CEM Parc de la Ciutadella, with a price of 16.91 euros. The difference between the two is 10.54 euros.
It is important to note that the facility managers propose the rates, which must then be approved by the Institut Barcelona Esport (IBE) and are established annually in a municipal government commission.
This summer, a total of 14 City Hall outdoor pools are open to the public, maintaining the same number as last season.
Some of them opened in May, such as CEM Can Toda and CEM Bac de Roda, while most of them opened at the end of June.
It is important to mention that the drought restrictions do not affect collective use pools, so they can be filled and opened normally.
