The Katharsis cycle returns to the Teatre Lliure with six theatrical proposals that are part of the program for 2023.
The Count of Torrefiel and other international and local artists come together to offer the public a different art that goes beyond interpretation, scenes and theater.
Katharsis, in its fourth edition, is made up of four cardinal points: contemplation, listening, recognition and judgment.
The works break with the traditional and with the norms of the performing arts.
The proposal is expected to be presented in two weeks.
It is possible to attend all the plays in the same weekend. Even see two or three shows in the same day.
Katharsis Cycle at the Teatre Lliure: an experience of extremes
The Plaza
At La Plaza, El Conde de Torrefiel brings a show that is different in its aesthetics and highly acclaimed by critics. The presentations will take place on January 26 and 27. The Plaza is a portrait of a landscape. Through this public space, the work shows realities of people and lives that are invisible. Worlds apart, but cohabiting on the same stage without even touching each other.
Domestic Violence
The work of Swedish artist Markus Öhrn comes to the Lliure in the format of a 5-hour performance that you can enter and leave. It shows how banal and brutal domestic violence is. The setting is simple and normal with a picture on the wall, a cuckoo clock, flowers on the table and white furniture from Ikea. In this space, feelings and situations of pain, aggression and suffering emerge. These are the extremes of domestic violence. It will be presented on January 21 and 22 at 6 pm.
Hapiness: part of the Katharsis cycle at Teatre Lliure
It is the sample of the construction of artificial happiness gained through painkillers, drugs and antidepressants. The work to be presented until January 28, is by Dutch artist Dries Verhoeven, where through an installation-performance in continuous session, the author shows a humanoid that dispenses in a pharmacy located in public space. It is the perfect combination of drugs and robotics, where artificiality and humanity merge.
Tête-à-tête .
Stéphane Gladyszewski’s play, to be presented on January 22, has a format with single-spectator passes and a performance frequency of every half hour. It is a novelty where you can put your face in a mask embedded in a removable panel. And through headphones you will be able to experience an immersive sound universe where a voice whispers the words of Octavio Paz’s poem “Two bodies facing each other…”.
