In Barcelona, four new speed control radars have been put into operation at different crucial points of the city’s road traffic.
They are the first of this system and will monitor that cars do not exceed the maximum speed allowed, which is 60km/h in the Rovira Tunnel, the Badal Tunnel and the Ronda Litoral (at the height of the Moll de la Fusta). In Glòries it is 50 km/h.
This network of radars installed inside the city is part of a system that performs automatic speeding control.
This measure is one of the objectives of the Urban Mobility Plan, PMU 2024 and the Local Road Safety Plan 2019-2022.
During the first two months of operation, only warnings will be sent to drivers. However, sanctions and fines will begin to be imposed as of next August.

The new speed control radars
With the installation of new radars and others in the city, the City Council seeks to reduce accidents.
The objective is to attack two fronts: on the one hand, awareness and sensitization of the public. On the other hand, to apply concrete measures to influence and reduce risky behavior, accident rates and road accidents.
The installation of 17 planned point radars has also begun. Twelve of them are located mainly in school environments and are limited to a maximum speed of 30 kilometers per hour. The other five at different points.
They are expected to be operational as of September 2022 (information phase). In 2023 will be the phase of fines and penalties.
