Ikea opens its new store in Barcelona’s Diagonal on June 30, marking a milestone in the reinvention of its business model.
The store represented an investment of five million euros.
Directed by Román Castro Salazar, the store aims to bring the product offering closer to the center of Barcelona and is another step in Ikea’s transition to a type of retail closer to residential areas.
This store model, which was launched in Paris a few years ago, is part of Ikea’s strategy to adapt to customer needs and offer a more convenient and accessible shopping experience.
In addition, a new type of store is being organized in Barcelona that will specialize in professional renovation services for offices, bars and restaurants, following a model similar to kitchen design centers.
The new Ikea store on the Diagonal in Barcelona
It is important to note that the opening of the store on Diagonal does not imply the closure of Ikea’s typical large stores, but is a complement to the company’s omnichannel strategy, which combines physical and online sales.
Ikea plans to open up to 12 new customer contact points, including the next Ikea Glòries store (Westfield Glòries shopping center).
The new Diagonal store has 1,525 square meters of sales area on two floors.
It will offer an exhibition of 3,000 products, with 1,000 of them available for direct sale. In addition, customers will have access to the entire Ikea catalog through services such as Click & Collect and Order & Collect.
The store will also have a 51-square-meter food court called “Swedish Bite”, which will include a terrace on Diagonal Avenue.
Business expansion
The opening of this store is part of Ikea’s expansion strategy in Spain, where the Catalan market, along with Madrid and Andalusia, are considered priority growth territories.
The Swedish chain also plans to establish warehouses as delivery points in Barcelona, including extended opening hours in some cases, to improve the shopping experience.
With the opening of the new store on Diagonal, Ikea seeks to get even closer to its customers and offer them a wide range of quality products and services in an accessible and convenient environment.
This step reinforces Ikea’s presence in Barcelona and its commitment to continue innovating and adapting to the changing needs of consumers.
Ikea started as a small mail-order company in rural Sweden.
It is now an international brand of decoration and home products.
