A study conducted by photography experts belonging to the British firm ParrotPrint, determined which are the most photographed monuments on Instagram.
In the top ten places is one of the flagship monuments of Barcelona: La Sagrada Familia.
To obtain the results, the consulting firm analyzed the number of hashtags that each iconic place in the world had added on Instagram since 2010, the year this social network was launched.
From this data they were able to determine which are the 10 wonders of the modern world.
Thus, La Sagrada Familia is among the 10 most famous monuments in the world and most photographed during the history of Instagram.
The most photographed monuments on Instagram
Closing the world’s top 10 most photographed is La Sagrada Familia, Barcelona’s most famous building with 2.6 million hashtags on Instagram.
First place went to the Eiffel Tower, France’s most famous monument, with 7.2 million hashtags on the social network.
In second place is Dubai’s Burj Kalifa, the world’s tallest building, with a record 6.2 million hashtags.
It is followed in the United States by the Grand Canyon of the Colorado with 4.2 million hashtags.
This list comes as no surprise, as they really are such iconic sites that they have worldwide recognition by millions of people.
The study by ParrotPrint, a British start-up founded in 2014, indicates that Barcelona is a city well known for its metropolitan architecture.
They also point out that the Sagrada Familia is the most iconic building in the Catalan capital, whose construction began in 1882.
It is expected to be completed in 2026 to coincide with the centenary of Antoni Gaudí’s death.
The great absentees
Among the places absent from the ranking are the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, the Sydney Opera House and the Taj Mahal, which do not occupy any of the top ten positions.
Apparently the start-up explains that these places may not appear in the top 10, since their location means that the number of visitors is smaller.
