Strange outdoor sculptures have turned the streets of Barcelona into a museum of architecture in recent days.
The 5 works, which will be on display until May 15, were installed for El Model Festival d’Arquitecturas. The aim is to encourage reflection on the city.
The exhibition was organized by the Barcelona City Council and the College of Architects of Catalonia, COAC.
It comprises a 7-kilometer circuit that delimits the border between Ciudad Vella and Eixample. In fact, the area became the setting for physical and augmented reality installations. All of them are experimental for the public space.
The objective is to rediscover the millenary buildings of the city, those with a modernist or contemporary Gaudí touch. All of them make Barcelona the best classroom to receive classes on urban planning and construction.
Barcelona: an open-air sculpture museum
The Model. Festival d’Arquitectures de Barcelona wants, through these walks, to turn Barcelona into an architectural reference for 2026. This year, the city will host the congress of the International Union of Architects. It will also be the UIA-Unesco World Architecture Capital.
Throughout the tour, 5 ephemeral installations are highlighted that allow us to see possible futures and discover hidden memories.
These works have been developed thanks to architectural firms in the city. And they have become a reality thanks to the joint work of landscape designers, schools and artists.
During the exhibition and for the duration of the festival, passers-by will be able to use the facilities for everyday use.
